Career Compass ("Career Compass," "we," "us," or "our") helps people organize evidence of their work, understand their pay position, and prepare a promotion case. This Privacy Policy explains how Career Compass handles personal information in the Career Compass iOS app and on pages that link to this policy.

Information we collect

We collect information that you provide or that is needed to operate the service:

  • Account information: email address, account identifier, authentication provider, and, when provided by an authentication provider, name or profile information.
  • Career information: current and target role information, career goals, promotion timing, work-location preferences, age in years, years of experience, and other setup answers.
  • Evidence and case content: work examples you enter, the signals and edits you approve, Case Check results, and the Promotion Case generated from your approved information.
  • Pay information: compensation figures you choose to provide, role-mapping information, geographic comparison inputs, and the resulting Pay Position analysis. We do not obtain bank-account or payment-card numbers.
  • Purchase information: App Store and RevenueCat purchase, entitlement, transaction-status, restore, refund, and fulfillment records. Apple processes payment information; Career Compass receives the purchase information needed to verify access and provide the purchased Promotion Case.
  • Support information: messages and information you send when you contact us.
  • Email delivery information: the recipient email address you select or enter, approved document content, PDF attachments, and delivery, retry, or failure status. You can send the documents to an address different from your account email.
  • Website information: IP address, browser or device information, requested pages, referring page, and essential security or delivery cookies processed when you visit our public website. We do not use the website to collect your Career Compass Evidence, pay, or Promotion Case content.
  • Operational and security information: authentication, device or installation identifiers, App Check or integrity results, diagnostics, and bounded product events needed to protect accounts, troubleshoot failures, prevent duplicate fulfillment, and operate purchase and case-generation flows. We do not put your Evidence, pay, or Promotion Case text in analytics events.

When journey analytics is enabled, we also collect the screens reached, action outcomes, coarse operation-duration buckets, app version, platform and release channel. Signed-out activity uses a temporary random session identifier that is not persisted on the device or linked to a later signed-in account. Signed-in activity is associated with the Career Compass account so we can understand product use and honor account deletion. This feature does not record screen replays, advertising identifiers, typed answers, salary, job title, employer, document text or recipient email.

How we use information

We use personal information to:

  • create, secure, and support your account;
  • save and display your career information, Evidence, Pay Position, Case Check, and Promotion Case;
  • determine when your Case Check is ready for a Promotion Case;
  • present, verify, fulfill, restore, and support your one-time Promotion Case purchase;
  • draft and check authorized AI-assisted content, prepare your PDFs, and send the documents when you approve email delivery;
  • prevent abuse, fraud, duplicate charges, and duplicate fulfillment;
  • diagnose errors and maintain the reliability and security of the service;
  • respond to support, privacy, and legal requests; and
  • comply with law and enforce our agreements.

We do not sell personal information. We do not use personal information for third-party advertising or cross-app tracking. Your employer cannot access your Career Compass account through Career Compass unless you choose to share information outside the app.

AI-assisted Evidence and Promotion Cases

Career Compass uses OpenAI to draft and check Evidence and to prepare purchased Promotion Cases. The app identifies the provider and explains the information sent before you authorize the relevant processing. A separate permission screen is not required for every entry: the inline Create my Evidence with AI action records your choice. You can instead choose Save without AI for any Evidence entry.

  • Evidence: OpenAI receives the answers you enter about your contribution and business outcome, and a draft for checking. We do not append your name, email, employer, compensation, or other profile fields to this flow. Anything you type in your answers is included, so avoid confidential or unnecessary personal details. Your permission applies to future Evidence under the same disclosed terms; saving without AI remains available.
  • Promotion Case: after you authorize preparation, OpenAI receives approved Evidence, Case Check context, current and target roles, and the material needed to draft and check the case. The checking step includes compensation amounts and percentiles, the proposed adjustment, occupation or age-band comparison context, geography, and published benchmark sources. We do not append your name, account email, account identifier, or employer field to these AI requests. Identifying details you include in Evidence may still be present.
  • Pay Position: occupation matching and percentile calculations use the published data catalog and calculation rules. This flow does not currently send your job title or pay inputs to OpenAI for role matching.

Our AI requests set response storage off. This does not mean zero provider retention: safety, abuse-monitoring, and other applicable processing retention may still apply. OpenAI states that API inputs and outputs are not used to train its models by default unless the API customer opts in. See OpenAI's API data controls. We store your source information, generated material, processing records, and review decisions in your private Career Compass account. Automated checks can miss errors; you review the content before using or sharing it.

Service providers and disclosures

We disclose information only as needed to operate the service, complete a transaction, protect users, or comply with law. Service providers include:

  • Google Firebase for authentication, database, server functions, app integrity, and operational diagnostics;
  • Apple for Sign in with Apple, App Store distribution, payment processing, purchase history, restores, and refunds;
  • Google when you choose Google sign-in;
  • RevenueCat for purchase and entitlement verification and restore support;
  • MailerSend for transactional email delivery, including the selected recipient address, approved Promotion Case and Conversation Guide PDF attachments, and delivery status;
  • Webflow and Cloudflare for public website hosting, delivery, and security; and
  • OpenAI for the authorized drafting and checking described above.

These providers process information under their own terms and privacy commitments. We may also disclose information when reasonably necessary to comply with law, protect rights or safety, investigate abuse or fraud, or complete a corporate transaction subject to appropriate protections.

Retention and deletion

We retain account and product information while your account is active and as needed to provide the service, maintain security and transaction integrity, resolve disputes, and comply with legal obligations.

You can request deletion inside the app from Account > Delete account. Account deletion initiates deletion of your Career Compass profile, Evidence, Pay Position records, Case Check, Promotion Case, consent records, and active operational records from Career Compass systems, and removes the associated RevenueCat customer record. Deleted Career Compass content cannot be recovered by restoring an App Store purchase later.

Account deletion does not itself request an App Store refund and cannot delete records that Apple must retain under Apple's policies or law. You can request a refund through Apple's purchase-support process. Limited encrypted backups, security records, provider safety records, transaction proofs, or records required by law may remain for a restricted period before deletion or isolation.

Deleting your account cannot recall email already delivered or remove copies of PDFs that you or a recipient downloaded or shared. Email delivery records may remain with the delivery provider under its retention policies. Check the destination address before you approve delivery.

Journey analytics events are scheduled for deletion 90 days after collection, with temporary analytics rate-limit records scheduled after two days. Automated expiration is asynchronous and does not erase copies in restricted backups immediately. Account deletion also removes the authenticated journey records in the active database. This analytics-specific retention does not change the separate purchase, security or legally required retention described above.

Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, object to, or receive a portable copy of personal information, and to withdraw consent where processing relies on consent. You may:

  • review and edit supported information in the app;
  • save Evidence without AI and contact support to withdraw ongoing AI permission;
  • choose the email destination for approved documents;
  • delete your account in the app;
  • use Apple's purchase tools for refunds and purchase management; or
  • contact support@careeraiapp.com with a verified privacy request.

Withdrawing consent does not affect processing that already occurred lawfully. We may need to verify your identity before completing a request.

Security

We use technical and organizational safeguards designed to protect personal information, including authenticated access, App Check or platform-integrity controls, server-side authorization, encrypted transport, least-privilege database rules, secret management, and redacted operational records. No system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

International processing

Career Compass and its service providers may process information in the United States and other countries. Where required, providers use contractual or legal safeguards for international transfers.

Children

Career Compass is intended for adults aged 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 18. Contact us if you believe a child has provided personal information.

Changes

We may update this policy as the service or law changes. We will update the date above and provide additional notice when required. Material changes to AI processing will require the in-app notice or authorization applicable to that feature.
